Which Bathmate Should You Buy? Complete Buyer’s Guide
Bathmate makes three series across eleven models, and the naming does not make the choice obvious. This guide takes you through it in three steps: measure yourself, choose your series, then decide between standard and Wide Boy. Fifteen minutes of reading here saves you from buying the wrong pump — which matters, because we cannot accept returns on a pump that does not fit.
Step 1 — Measure Yourself First
Size comes before everything else. The best pump in the range is useless if it cannot form a seal against your body, and an undersized cylinder will simply be uncomfortable.
You need two measurements, both taken when fully erect:
- Length: ruler flat against the pubic bone, pressed in until it touches bone, measured along the top to the tip.
- Girth: flexible tape or a paper strip around the thickest point, usually mid-shaft.
Take both twice on separate days and use the average, not your best reading. Our Bathmate size chart covers the measuring technique in detail, including the mistakes that lead most people to order one size too small.
Once you have your length, here is your band:
| Erect length | Your options |
|---|---|
| Up to 3 inches | Hydromax3 |
| 3 to 5 inches | Hydromax5 or HydroXtreme5 |
| 5 to 7 inches | Hydro7, Hydromax7 or HydroXtreme7 |
| 6 to 8 inches | Hydromax8 |
| 7 to 9 inches | Hydromax9 or HydroXtreme9 |
| Over 9 inches | HydroXtreme11 |
If your band offers only one model, your decision is made. If it offers two or three, move to Step 2.
Step 2 — Choose Your Series
Hydro7 — for first-time users
The original Bathmate design and the simplest to operate. Pressure builds as you push the cylinder toward your body, with no valve or handball to manage. There is only one size, covering 5 to 7 inches erect.
Choose it if: you have never used a hydro pump, you measure 5–7 inches, and you want the lowest-commitment way to find out whether pumping suits you.
Skip it if: you have pumped before — you will find the suction underpowered compared to Hydromax. See Hydro7
Hydromax — for most users
The series most men should buy. A redesigned bellows system delivers 35% more suction than the Hydro series with less physical effort, and the super-flow latch valve means you flick a switch to hold pressure instead of holding the pump in position — leaving one hand completely free. The comfort pad is softer and removable for washing.
Hydromax also has the widest size range: 3, 5, 7, 7 Wide Boy, 8 and 9. Whatever your measurement, there is a Hydromax for it.
Choose it if: you want strong performance without complexity, or you fall outside the 5–7 inch band where Hydro7 is the only alternative. See the Hydromax range
HydroXtreme — for experienced users
Adds a detachable handball and hose, so you build and release pressure by hand in small controlled increments rather than relying on the cylinder position. Every HydroXtreme also includes the full 9-piece accessory kit: carry case, handball and hose, comfort insert, cleaning sponge, Bathmate Clean, security lock, shower strap and wash towel.
There is a short learning curve. The handball takes a few sessions to master, which is why this is the series to graduate into rather than start with.
Choose it if: you have an established routine and want complete control over every session, with everything included. See the HydroXtreme range
Step 3 — Standard or Wide Boy?
Wide Boy models exist in the 5–7 inch band only, in both Hydromax and HydroXtreme. They share the same length range as the standard model but use a wider chamber.
The rule is simple: length decides your model, girth decides standard versus Wide Boy. If your girth sits at the upper end of the range and a standard cylinder would feel restrictive, choose the Wide Boy version of the same size. If your girth is average, the standard cylinder is the better fit because it seals more easily.
Do not choose a Wide Boy hoping for extra room to grow into. An oversized chamber loses pressure, and lost pressure means a wasted session.

Our Straight Recommendation
- Most people should buy the Hydromax in their size band. It is the best balance of power, simplicity and price across the whole range.
- Buy the Hydro7 only if you measure 5–7 inches and want the simplest possible entry point.
- Buy a HydroXtreme if you have pumped before, or you are confident you will commit to a routine and want the full kit from the start.
- Buy a Wide Boy if your girth is at the upper end of the 5–7 inch band — not as insurance.
What Else You Might Need
None of these are essential, but they each solve a real problem:
- Shower Strap — holds the pump in place so you can complete all three cycles standing up. The single most useful accessory.
- Cleaning Kit — reaches internal surfaces a rinse alone misses.
- Power Rings — worn during intercourse, never during pumping, for a maximum of 10 minutes.
- Capsule Case — discreet storage and travel protection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Bathmate should I buy as a beginner?
The Hydromax in your size band is the best starting point for most people. If you measure 5–7 inches and want the simplest possible introduction, the Hydro7 also works well.
Is HydroXtreme worth the extra cost over Hydromax?
It is if you want precise manual pressure control and the full accessory kit. If you are still establishing a routine, Hydromax gives you most of the performance with less to learn.
What is the difference between Hydromax and Hydro7?
Hydromax delivers 35% more suction through its bellows system, adds a super-flow latch valve for one-handed control, and has a removable comfort pad. The Hydro7 is simpler and available in one size only.
How do I know if I need a Wide Boy model?
Length decides your model; girth decides standard versus Wide Boy. If your girth sits at the upper end of the 5–7 inch band and a standard cylinder would feel restrictive, choose the Wide Boy.
Should I size up so I have room to grow?
No. An oversized cylinder loses pressure and the session achieves nothing. Buy for your current measurement.
Do Bathmate pumps actually work?
Water pressure creates a vacuum that draws more blood into the erectile tissue, supporting circulation and vascular health. You will see a fuller look immediately after each session; lasting improvements build over weeks of consistent use. Results vary between individuals depending on physiology, consistency and lifestyle.
Can you recommend a model if I tell you my size?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp or email with your measurement before ordering and we will confirm the right model for you.
